Season of Creation

From September 1 to October 4, the global Christian family is invited to gather for the Season of Creation, a special time for prayer, reflection, and action to safeguard our common home.

Established as the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation in 1989 by the Orthodox Church, and later expanded to the entire Christian world in 2015, this important season now unites more than 2.5 billion Christians around a common goal: to live an integral ecology and take concrete daily steps to protect the Earth.

2025 Theme: “Peace with Creation”

Inspired by the passage from Isaiah 32:14-18, this year’s theme challenges us to reflect on the consequences of our destructive behaviors: devastated cities, barren lands, and broken relationships between God, humanity, and Creation. True peace cannot exist without justice toward the Earth and all its creatures.

The 2025 symbol, the Garden of Peace, is illustrated by the dove carrying an olive branch, recalling the story of Noah and the sign of new life after the flood. This symbol calls us to restore harmony between humanity and Creation.

A time for prayer … and concrete commitment

Beyond celebrations, the Season of Creation 2025 calls for collective action in support of the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty (FFNPT), aiming to gradually move away from polluting energy sources while ensuring a just transition for workers, communities, and nations.

A celebration guide is available in English, French and Spanish, offering prayers, biblical reflections, and suggestions for local or community actions.

Why take part?

Because caring for Creation also means caring for one another. The Season of Creation is a unique opportunity to live out your faith in harmony with ecological commitment—at home, in your parish, or in your community—throughout the year.

In his message for the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation, Pope Leo XIV highlights the 10th anniversary of this day, which coincides with the publication of the encyclical Laudato Si’, and refers to the Jubilee Pilgrims of Hope. The message is available in English, French and Spanish.
