“I’m buying a Quebec book”
This day celebrates the writings of Quebec authors. Since its inception, it has been very popular, to the surprise of many. Several independent bookstores organize meetings with local authors to encourage exchanges between readers and authors, as in a book fair. It is also an opportunity to take a family outing to a bookstore and to make young people aware of our literature.
Launched in 2014 on social media by authors Patrice Cazeault and Amélie Dubé, the “August 12, I’m buying a Quebec book” initiative aims to stimulate the purchase of books by Quebec authors. This day has the merit of bringing Quebec literature to the forefront at a time of the year that is known to be quieter in the publishing world.
The initiative encourages readers to share their favorites for a title, an author and to discover new ones, such as Aboriginal authors for example. There is no shortage of Quebec book titles. Happy reading!
