Oscar Romero Days

One year late, courtesy of the pandemic, a two-day event is planned to highlight the legacy and commemorate the 40th anniversary of Oscar Romero’s assassination. Archbishop of San Salvador, the latter is known for his defense of human rights and particularly of the peasants of his diocese.

A panel on the theme “Courage in the face of power: current struggles” is scheduled for Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Martin Bellerose, theologian, Marie-Ève Marleau, coordinator of the Committee for Human Rights in Latin America (CDHAL), and a representative of Generación Romero (from El Salvador) will participate in this panel, which will be followed by a forum theater.

On Sunday, March 21, at 3:00 p.m., an ecumenical celebration and cultural presentation will close this two-day commemorative event.

This commemorative event is the result of a partnership between the Justice and Faith Centre, ROJEP, the Pastorale sociale de Montréal, the Oscar Romero Foundation and Antennes et Paix. It also benefits from the collaboration of the Committee for Human Rights in Latin America (CDHAL).
