National Caregivers Week
Nearly one in four people in Quebec supports a loved one living with a temporary or permanent disability. These caregivers—known in French as personnes proches aidantes (PPA)—play a vital role in society. In addition to ensuring the well-being of their loved ones, they help reduce pressure on the healthcare and social services system.
The National Caregivers Week will take place from November 2 to 8, 2025. Its goal is to raise awareness about the importance of caregivers’ contributions and to encourage greater recognition of their commitment and dedication. This year’s campaign, organized by Proche aidance Québec, invites everyone to express gratitude and to support caregivers in diverse and meaningful ways.
Founded in 2000, Proche aidance Québec brings together nearly 150 member organizations that collectively support more than 41,000 caregivers across the province. These organizations offer services such as emotional and psychosocial support (both individual and group), respite care, and various other forms of assistance.
To help the public better understand the reality of caregiving, the 2025 campaign features testimonies from a caregiver, her spouse, and one of the member organizations of Proche aidance Québec. Several other initiatives and community events will also take place throughout the week.
