Jacques Morin: A Call for Courage and Hope in Support of the Fondation Mgr G.-M. Coderre

Return to news

How can we hold on to hope and continue taking action in the face of injustice in our world? This is a question that has inspired Jacques Morin for decades. A dedicated community advocate, he will be the guest speaker at the 49th fundraising brunch of the Fondation Mgr G.-M. Coderre, on Saturday, November 14, at Parcours du Cerf in Longueuil.

A “Community Pilgrim” Always Moving Forward

Jacques Morin, guest speaker at the fundraising brunch.

Deeply concerned about inequality, Jacques Morin describes himself as a “community pilgrim.” Well known in the Diocese of Saint-Jean—Longueuil, he has worked with the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary (SNJM) on several initiatives, including welcoming Syrian refugee families.

Now in his seventies, he continues his work with the same sense of curiosity: “Thanks be to God, life continues to surprise me with encounters and projects that are bigger than I am.”

His talk will explore social action within the diocese and the power of collective commitment. In his view, no one can overcome society’s challenges alone.

Inspired by the Good News and its message of hope, he believes that “as families, as communities, in solidarity, and as Church,” a more caring and united future remains possible, despite the obstacles.

A Foundation Supporting Education and Communications

This annual gathering raises funds for two essential aspects of the mission of the diocese.

The Fondation Mgr G.-M. Coderre supports theological and pastoral education for laypeople, particularly those serving in parishes and various diocesan departments.

It also supports the Communications Department, including its website and social media platforms, which help share information, highlight initiatives, and promote the life and activities of the diocese.

These two complementary approaches help share knowledge, build connections, and keep the Church’s mission alive today.

The SNJMs Continue Their Mission in New Ways

As longtime partners of the Foundation, the SNJMs see this involvement as another way to carry forward their educational and social mission.

Sr. Lorraine Mongeon, who has served on the Board of Directors for more than 12 years and as its President since 2018, actively contributes to this work, which often takes place behind the scenes, but plays an important role in the diocese.

Along with helping to organize the event, she maintains the connection between the Foundation, which will celebrate its 50th anniversary in November 2027, and the new bishop, Bishop Martin Laliberté, P.M.E.
