Sister Éliana Vallée

On May 1, 2026, at Maison Jésus-Marie, in Longueuil,

Sister Éliana Vallée (Sister M. Laure-Béatrice)
went home to God.

She was 102 years old and had celebrated 76 years of religious profession with the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary (SNJM).

Throughout her long life of religious consecration, Sister Éliana served her community with simplicity and generosity. Skilled with her hands and attentive to others, she worked in various household ministries essential to the daily life of the Sisters before continuing her mission in other ways through her presence, companionship, and prayer.

Family and Early Years

Éliana Vallée was born on July 29, 1924, in Valleyfield. The daughter of Laura Lanctôt and Pierre Vallée, she was the youngest of eight children.

She attended École Marie-Rose in Valleyfield. In January of 1948, at the age of 24, she entered the postulate at the SNJM Motherhouse in Outremont. She made her first vows in February 1950 and initially spent several years teaching.

A Long Life of Service to the Community

In 1957, Sister Éliana began a new chapter in her journey that would continue for nearly 50 years. She devoted her talents to community service in various SNJM residences.

Over the years, she served as a cook, refectorian, laundress, and seamstress, faithfully carrying out these essential tasks for the well-being of her companions. In 1976, she participated in a year of spiritual renewal at “R-50” before resuming her various forms of service within the Congregation.

Presence and Prayer as Mission

In 2007, Sister Éliana retired to Maison Jésus-Marie. As long as her health allowed, she continued visiting Sisters who were ill, a natural extension of her lifelong care for others.

When her own health became more fragile, her mission took on a new form: the ministry of prayer. Her final years were particularly marked by her devotion to Mary and Mother Marie-Rose.

After more than a century of life, Sister Éliana’s journey bears witness to a faithfulness lived through daily service, a caring presence, and prayer.
