Sister Angéline Parenteau
On April 22, 2025, at Maison Jésus-Marie in Longueuil,
Sister Angéline Parenteau
(Sister M.-Jeanne-de-Chantal)
went home to God.
She was 89 years old, with 64 years of religious vowed life.
Born on March 30, 1936, in Yamaska, Quebec, Angéline was the daughter of Camille Parenteau and Jeanne Boucher. She was the sixth of nine children (3 boys and 6 girls) in the family. She attended primary and secondary school in the convent of the Sisters of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Yamaska. She obtained her teaching diploma at the Teachers’ College in Nicolet.
With a rich, 5-year experience of teaching in Yamaska and Contrecoeur, Angéline entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary (SNJM), in Outremont, on July 24, 1958. She made her final vows on August 5, 1965.
Following that, she was named to be in charge of the students living in Côte-des-Neiges Residence. Many people who knew her testified to her many interests which assured the students of having a variety of activities.
After her teaching ministry, Angéline’s ministry was directed towards various community services: secretariat, audiovisual, photography, driving, etc. Her passion for technology and for the SNJM heritage inspired her to seek formation in fields which became useful for the forward movement of the Congregation.
She was a member of several SNJM committees aimed at familiarizing others with the use of new methods of communication: computer technology, Internet, WEB sites. She was also a member of the communications committee of the CRC-Q (Canadian Religious Conference – Quebec) and was the CRC-Q contact person for Quebec religious congregations.
Sister Angéline was very gifted manually, competent in multiple trades, and always ready to serve when an event could benefit from her attention. A woman of creativity and initiative, she was a model of a life lived to the full. In whatever she did, Angeline showed an exceptional competence.
Who can find a valiant woman?
She sets herself to work with eager hands…
She helps… she gives… (Proverbs 31)
