St. Patrick’s Day

A Celebration that Also Reflects a Link with the History of the SNJM

On March 17, St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated in many countries around the world. Beyond its festive character and the symbols associated with Irish culture, this day is also an opportunity to highlight the heritage and contributions of communities of Irish origin.

For the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary (SNJM), this celebration also recalls a chapter of their history. In the early years of the congregation, Mother Marie-Rose welcomed several Irish orphans, offering them a place of care and education. Over time, many women of Irish descent joined the congregation, contributing to its educational mission and development.

St. Patrick’s Day therefore offers a meaningful opportunity to recall these historical ties and to recognize the presence of sisters of Irish origin who have helped shape the life of the community.

Thoughts Inspired by Irish Tradition

As tradition would have it, this day is often accompanied by inspiring words and wishes filled with wisdom and goodwill.

“St. Patrick’s Day is an enchanted time — a day to begin transforming winter’s dreams into summer’s magic.”
Adrienne Cook

“May Saint Patrick guard you wherever you go and guide you in whatever you do, and may his loving protection always be a blessing to you.”
Irish Blessing

And why not conclude with a wish inspired by Irish folklore:

May your thoughts be as joyful as shamrocks.
May your heart be as light as a song.
May each day bring you happy, bright hours
that will accompany you throughout the year.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day to everyone of Irish heritage — by birth or by heart — and joyful celebrations! 🍀
