International Day of Hope

A Call to Action for Everyone

On July 12, 2025, we will mark the very first celebration of the International Day of Hope, proclaimed in March by the United Nations General Assembly.

In a world shaken by multiple crises—social, economic, environmental—and marked by growing divisions, this day offers a much-needed breath of fresh air, a collective invitation to revive a universal value: hope.

Rooted in the founding principles of the United Nations Charter and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, this day highlights the essential role of hope in building more just, inclusive, and resilient societies. Far from being just symbolic, it calls for concrete actions.

Governments, organizations, communities—and above all, each person—are invited to become sowers of hope.

How can we answer this call?

Through simple and meaningful gestures:

  • Organize a Circle of Hope with friends, colleagues, or students to discuss local challenges and imagine solutions together.
  • Give some of your time for tutoring, volunteering, visiting an isolated neighbor or an elderly person.
  • Include moments of reflection on hope in your meetings, classes, or community gatherings.

Every small action matters: a sincere conversation, a kind gesture, or an encouraging word can spark the change we all need.

Ultimately, the International Day of Hope reminds us that even in the midst of hardship, hope is a transformative force. It calls on us to build a future not based on despair or division, but on shared humanity and the deep conviction that better days are possible.

Let’s turn this optimism into action.

“Hope is the most important thing in life. It gives people a reason to live and the energy to move forward.”

- Norman Cousins
