Celebrating Diversity and the Strength of Family Bonds
Each year, Family Week highlights the essential role families play in our society. In 2026, two complementary initiatives—one in Quebec and one across Canada—invite us to recognize their importance and support those who bring them to life every day.
In Quebec: A True Balancing Act
Quebec Family Week, now in its 31st edition, takes place from May 11 to 17 under the theme “Wearing Many Hats—That’s Family Life!”
Coordinated by the Réseau pour un Québec Famille, this week reflects the reality of today’s families, often balancing multiple responsibilities. It celebrates their diversity and their vital contribution to society.
Families remain a cornerstone of community life:
• the first place of learning and values transmission
• a space of mutual support and solidarity
• a key factor in social and economic stability
Supporting families means helping to build a more caring, inclusive, and compassionate society.
Across Canada: Embracing Family as a Gift
At the same time, National Family and Life Week, organized by the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) from May 10 to 17, is centered on the theme “I Am with You Always” (Matthew 28:20).
This initiative highlights the family—often called the “domestic Church”—as a place of presence, growth, and hope. It invites families and communities to celebrate the gift of family life, both in joyful moments and in times of challenge.
To support this effort, a pastoral toolkit is available, including:
• prayer intentions
• activity suggestions for families
• resources for parish animation
• a video and social media tools
Recognizing and Supporting Families
Together, these initiatives remind us that families are at the heart of our lives and communities. They play a key role in passing on values, supporting vulnerable individuals, and building a shared future.
During Family Week, let us take the time to recognize their contribution and take meaningful action to support them.
