Advent is a time of preparation marked by the symbolism of expectation, the expectation of Christ’s coming, celebrated at Christmas. Advent begins four Sundays before Christmas. This year, Advent begins on December 1, and kicks off liturgical year C. Its theme is “A hope to welcome.”
For this meaningful time of year, there are a number of tools available to help Christians live an Advent that invites them to reconnect with history and simplify their lives by remembering the arrival of the newborn in the crib.
The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB), for example, is offering a time for reflection with the presentation of a video capsule each week in an initiative entitled “Journeying through Advent 2024”.
In addition to the usual references for better living this important period, the Laudato Si’ Movement has prepared an Advent calendar and a contemplation kit. It includes texts to encourage deep reflection, ideas for meditation and prayers for each Sunday.
Happy Advent!
