“A Step Toward Reconciliation” Conference

A Dialogue Filled with Hope

Ahead of National Indigenous History Month, the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary (SNJM) will host the conference “A Step Toward Reconciliation,” an inspiring event focused on dialogue and a deeper understanding of Indigenous realities.

Ms. Stéphanie Godin, Executive Director of Externat Mont-Jésus-Marie (EMJM), will share the impact of the reconciliation journey undertaken by the school in recent years as it celebrates its centennial in 2025–2026.

During her visit in 2024, Ms. Stéphanie Godin met with several people, including this elder from the Matimekush-Lac John community.

She will speak about her visit to Schefferville and her meetings with the Matimekush-Lac John community and Chief Réal McKenzie. The conference will also highlight initiatives carried out with students, including the song “Tshishe Manitu,” which deeply moved members of the Indigenous community.

Organized by the SNJM Justice and Peace Committee with the valued collaboration of Ms. Yvonne Demers, this event reflects a commitment to fostering listening, encounter, and mutual understanding—values deeply rooted in the SNJM educational mission.
