National Indigenous Peoples Day

National Indigenous Peoples’ Day is observed on June 21, the summer solstice (the longest day of the year). It promotes the cultural diversity and unique heritage of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples and their diverse achievements.

To mark this important day, the Mission chez nous team has posted a new fact sheet entitled “Hope that lifts us up”. The aim is to encourage Christians to build relationships and solidarity with Aboriginal people. The sheet, available in French only, includes explanations of the meaning of the Day, prayers and a toolbox. On its resources page, the organization offers several documents and spiritual arrangements produced over the years.

This day is part of National Indigenous History Month. A website brings together various information including virtual activities. Other suggestions for discovering Indigenous peoples include reading a digital copy of books from the #IndigenousReads reading list for all audiences.

You are invited to immerse yourself in the history of Indigenous trail-blazers. An activity guide for children is also available in English and French.
