World Mission Week

From October 12 to 19, 2025, Christian communities around the globe will come together to celebrate World Mission Week — a special time to reflect, pray, and act in solidarity with missionaries serving across all continents. This week culminates on World Mission Sunday, celebrated simultaneously in churches worldwide on October 19.

A Theme of Hope

In what is now recognized as his spiritual missionary testament, Pope Francis chose for 2025 the theme: “Missionaries of Hope Among the Peoples.”

This message reminds us that mission is at the very heart of the Church’s identity and that every baptized person is called to be a messenger and builder of hope, following in the footsteps of Christ.
It is an invitation to rekindle the missionary flame—to reach out to others, to listen with compassion, and to sow seeds of peace, joy, and trust, even in times of suffering or injustice.

This inspiring text from Pope Francis is available in multiple languages — including French, English, Spanish, and Portuguese — offering a valuable resource for prayer, reflection, and community gatherings.

Living the Mission Locally

Throughout the world — including in parishes across Québec and Canada — a variety of activities will mark the week:
• Evenings of prayer and adoration
• Community celebrations
• Workshops and discussions exploring questions such as:

“What is God’s will for me?”
“How can I be a witness of hope today?”
“Where and how can I hear Christ’s call?”

These gatherings aim to strengthen the connection between the faithful and missionaries while highlighting the universal dimension of the mission — showing that every prayer, every act of generosity, and every gesture of kindness helps support vulnerable communities worldwide.

A Call to Concrete Solidarity

The offerings collected during Mission Sunday Masses provide vital support to young and developing churches. These funds help finance educational, pastoral, and social projects in regions often lacking material resources.

Resources to Go Further

The Pontifical Mission Societies (OPM) offer several helpful tools, including activity booklets, mission prayers, and celebration materials (available in French only).
The website Mission Foi also features a video capsule on the missionary reality in 2025, along with inspiring testimonies from people who live their faith and mission in everyday life.
