It was on June 28, 1844 that Mother Véronique-du-Crucifix underwent the ritual of taking the habit as did the first three novices of the Congregation.
An Archive in the spotlight explains the ritual of this first taking of the habit in the presence of Bishop Bourget, bishop of the diocese.
Mother Véronique-du-Crucifix became the second Superior General of the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary (SNJM) in 1849, following the death of the foundress, Mother Marie-Rose. She also assumed the role of Director of Studies and developed the SNJM curriculum which served as the educational framework for all the institutions created by the SNJM. Known as “Mother of the Pacific,” Hedwidge Davignon (civilian name) played a major role in the congregation. Read the summary of her biography.
