Rendez-vous de la Francophonie

The Rendez-vous de la Francophonie (RVF) is held throughout the month of March to promote the French language and its many expressions in Canada. They are part of the cultural events surrounding the International Day of La Francophonie celebrated around the world on March 20.

For its 27th edition, the Rendez-vous de la Francophonie has adopted the theme “Cultivate your roots!” to “celebrate Francophone culture in all its richness, to live it, enrich it and disseminate it.” Actress Garihanna Jean-Louis and musician Guyaume Boulianne are co-spokespersons for RVF 2025.

In their Canada-wide promotional activities, they wish to highlight the place of living culture in everyone’s universe. Culture helps create strong ties between families, communities and generations, like a network of living, interconnected and expanding roots.”

At the same time, the diversity of the events organized reveals the vitality of Francophone communities. National programming takes a variety of forms, from shows to book clubs, not forgetting school activities and cinema with the NFB.

To mark 20 years of participation in the Rendez-vous de la Francophonie, the National Film Board (NFB) is offering six film programs on the theme. Throughout March, these documentaries and animation programs will be available free of charge.

Let’s remember that the RVF emphasizes “inclusion to highlight the contribution of Canadians of different origins and by recognizing the presence and the millennial contribution of Aboriginal peoples on the North American continent.”

In parallel to these RVFs, and throughout the year, several organizations share their passion for the Francophonie, including the Association canadienne d’éducation de la langue française, which offers educational tools and numerous resources. The main objective is “to help young people make a significant place for the French language and Francophone culture in their lives.” Another resource to discover… (French only)
