For several years, the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary (SNJM) have been holding a hunger meal at Maison Jésus-Marie (MJM) where only a bowl of soup and bread, accompanied by butter or cheese, is served.
“It is an opportunity to experience what others feel on a daily basis”, underlines Sr. Gabrielle Brunet, inspired by her missionary work in Haiti and instigator of the activity.
The event is also part of Development and Peace – Caritas Canada’s Share Lent campaign. Under the theme “Cultivating our Rights”, this campaign focuses on actions taken in Nigeria, Indonesia and Bolivia to ensure food sovereignty.
This year’s hunger meal will be held on Thursday March 21 at Maison Jésus-Marie (MJM). It will be preceded by a talk given by Julie Tétreault, volunteer and SNJM affiliate. She gave a talk in February on the Share Lent campaign. A discussion period will follow to prepare for the moment of reflection during the meal, which is usually held in silence.
