Since 2023, Fair Trade Month has been celebrated in October, bringing together fair trade organizations worldwide. This initiative highlights the positive impacts of fair trade and reminds us that through our everyday choices, we can help build a fairer and more sustainable world.
Note: World Fair Trade Day is still observed on the second Saturday of May.
Why Choose Fair Trade?

This year’s theme, proposed by the Quebec Fair Trade Association — “Choose Fair” — invites everyone to reflect on the impact of their consumer habits. Whether at the grocery store, in shops, or online, choosing certified fair trade products directly supports the lives of thousands of small-scale farmers and producers in the Global South, while also promoting environmentally responsible practices.
By choosing fair trade, you help to:
- Strengthen the economic independence of small producers and women
- Fight exploitation and certain forms of modern slavery
- Support sustainable farming methods that respect ecosystems
- Contribute to a more democratic and solidarity-based economy
