Development and Peace – Caritas Canada’s fall campaign continues under the theme “People & Planet First”. In addition to various actions to support vulnerable populations and fight for human dignity, the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace continues to advocate for due diligence on human rights and the environment.
The current campaign aims to increase membership by reaching out to young people in particular while raising funds to support some 70 projects in 29 countries around the world.
Following a June 2022 policy meeting in Halifax, the non-governmental organization (NGO) identified three main directions:
- Renewing the movement by integrating new members
- To live synodality
- Creating integral communities in accordance with the principles of integral ecology while promoting the empowerment of women
At the same time, the campaign also invites the population “to listen to and amplify the voices of those who defend their rights and the environment, threatened by the current economic model.” In one of the video, the case of an indigenous activist from Honduras, imprisoned for defending “Mother Earth,” is highlighted.
