Development and Peace – Caritas Canada’s new campaign is under the theme “People & Planet First”. In addition to various actions to support vulnerable populations and fight for human dignity, the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace is calling on the House of Commons to adopt a human rights and environmental due diligence law. A petition has been launched and can be signed online.
In the context of the COP26 meetings on climate change solutions, Development and Peace – Caritas Canada wants to increase public awareness while encouraging elected officials to make decisions that promote a just economy that takes into account integral human development and respects human rights.
The campaign also invites people “to listen to and amplify the voices of those who defend their rights and the environment, threatened by the current economic model.” In one of the video, the case of an indigenous activist from Honduras, imprisoned for defending “Mother Earth,” is highlighted.
